"lost in the web" 404 page

Trademark Productions is a millennial run web-design company in lower Michigan. They are a small company with a team of very talented thinkers and developers. My task for the project was to create a memorable 404 page for their website that reflected the company itself.

In order to fit the brand essence of the funky-fun & irreverent web design company, the 404 page needed to be a special sort of different. Something that, though it is generally found by accident, is a fresh way to smoothly redirect website guests back to what they are looking for. The concept that I created was to create a "hole in the internet" in which one would happen upon. The objects that flit through this hole were selected based upon various interests of the various personalities that make up the company.
Different styles were experimented with in the initial sketching/planning of the page. Characters were first hand-drawn out and then built in illustrator. I worked closely with a developer to create each of individual graphic in creating this vortex feel.
